Stow-on-the-Wold
- 65 miles
There are a million and one
routes to Stow. Here's one. Loads of cafes as well, but don't expect
anything too cheap, and don't expect freshly squeezed apple juice,
unless your name is Bodo.
- Eynsham - Freeland - North Leigh - Finstock.
- Straight through Finstock to Mount Skippett, straight across
the B4022 to Leafield.
- Take the right fork at Fairfield corner to the B4437, where
right then left to Ascott-under-Wychwood.
- Over the level crossing at Ascott to the A361, where left then
right to Lyneham, Sarsden Lodge and onto the B4450.
- Turn left for the most direct route to Stow. Alternatively,
you can turn right after a mile to Kingham and through Draylesford
to the A436. Turn left, across the railway and right to Broadwell
and thence to Stow.
- Coming out of Stow, take the B4068 down the hill to Lower Swell
- Turn left off the B4068 where the road starts to rise again
to Lower Slaughter, from where you'll come out somewhere on the
A429 near Bourton-on-the-Water.
- Ride straight through (don't stop; it's awful) turn left after
a mile and a half to Great Rissington.
- There is quite a steep climb up through Great Rissington; when
you get to the top, turn right down the long gentle descent to
Great Barrington, then turn left through Taynton to Burford
.
