Shipston-on-Stour
- 80 miles
80 miles without a decent
cafe - the best bet is to go onto Moreton-in-Marsh. I reckon this
is quite a tiring ride; it's surprisingly hilly up towards Banbury,
and up and down all the way.
- Marston - Islip - Bletchingdon.
- From Bletchingdon you can either go up through Kirtlington,
Upper Heyford and Somerton to North Aston, or keep going through
Bletchingdon to turn right upto Tackley, Rousham and Steeple Aston
- turn right in Middle Aston to North Aston. Basically, it's whether
you take one bank or the other of the Cherwell. I reckon it's
nicer through Tackley.
- Either way, turn left in North Aston to Duns Tew (cross the
A4260) then soon after, take the right fork to Hempton.
- Continue straight across the B4031 to Barford St. Michael and
Bloxham.
- When you reach the A361 in Bloxham, turn left then right and
keep going to Lower Tadmarton. From here it is eight fairly hilly
miles to Shipston-on-Stour. You can go right into the town centre;
otherwise turn off about one mile before (signposted to Willington).
- Just after the village, turn left, straight across the crossroads,
cross the A3400 to Todenham and thence Moreton-in-Marsh
. This is getting on for 50 miles, but it is only 34 back
through Ascott-under-Wychwood.
- You can cut some of the distance by turning left about four
miles short of Shipston in Lower Brailes (at the bottom of a long
descent) through Sutton-under-Brailes, Stourton, Cherington onto
the A3400, left then right immediately to Little Wolford, then
via Great Wolford and Todenham to Moreton-in-Marsh.
