Northleach - 70 miles

Really a variation on Cirencester, but quite pleasant in its own right. There's a cafe I think on the main street, and also a butchers called Dangerfields.

  • At Fairford - turn right to Quenington.
  • Continue straight through Quenington to Coln St. Aldwyns, where turn left at the top of the hill.
  • Keep going straight on; after about two miles, there is a left fork through a wood (Bratch Copse, on the map, but not marked on the ground).
  • Cross the A433, keep going straight on. Turn left (basically, follow the road) in Lodge Park to Eastington and Northleach. (nb - this is 40 miles but it is only 30 back).
  • From Northleach turn left off the main road up a steep climb; then back down under the A40; then another steep climb.
  • Turn right to Farmington, then follow the Sherbourne/Windrush valley through Sherbourne and Windrush.
  • Soon after Windrush you have a choice - either turn left to Great Barrington, then right through Taynton to Burford , or go to Little Barrington and turn left through Upton to Burford. These follow opposite banks of the Windrush - the left bank (i.e., through Taynton) is the slightly better road as the other has potholes you could get lost in and a farm dog which can run at speeds in excess of 20mph.
