Moreton-in-Marsh
- 70 miles A nice ride, with lots of
cafes, and - for places in the Cotswolds - not exhorbitantly priced.
- At Charlbury, follow the B4026 to Chipping Norton.
- Ignore the A44 to Moreton, but instead go through the town centre
and turn left at the double roundabout to Over Norton (up a steep
hill).
- At the top of the hill, turn left, still climbing though more
gently. There is a steep descent past a road joining from the
right to a crossroads.
- Continue straight over the crossroads, then after 1/4 mile,
turn right to Long Compton on the A3400.
- Turn left and left agin in Long Compton, signposted to Barton-on-the-Heath.
There is a drag up to a T-junction; turn right here down a very
muddy road to Great Wolford.
- Go straight through Great Wolford (ignoring another sign to
Moreton) to the village of Todenham - turn left here to Moreton-in-Marsh.
- Coming home, take the A44 Oxford road over the railway, then
turn right whilst still in the outskirts of the town (signposted
to Evenlode).
- Follow the road through Evenlode; soon after turn left (or rather,
don't turn right to Broadwell; if you do, you cross the railway
line and end up in Stow). Instead, stay on the NE side of the
railway line to a Y-junction.
- Turn right at the Y-junction, signposted Stow - Chipping Norton,
to come out on the A436. Turn left then right. (Alternatively,
at the Y-jct if you go left, you go uphill through Adlestrop to
come out again on the A436; turn right down the hill then left).
- Either way, keep going to Kingham.
- Follow the signs through Kingham to Kingham Station until you
reach the B4450; then turn right and left through Lyneham to Ascott-under-Wychwood,
from where you follow the directions for Stow
in reverse back to Oxford.
