Marlborough
- 90 miles
90 miles that is if you go
back through Hungerford and Lambourn; you can make it 100 miles
if you take the long route back from Hungerford as detailed elsewhere
(ie, through Kintbury and Winterbourne)
- At Lambourn
turn right at the crossroads, then left after about half
a mile. At the top of the hill is a T-junction; turn right to
Baydon.
- Turn left in Baydon to Aldbourne.
- Cross the B4192, going rightish, up a long, straight, gently
climbing road to Woodsend then down a very steep descent to Ogbourne
St. George.
- Ogbourne St. George is on the A345, turn left to Marlborough.
There are a few cafes, one of them above one of the shops on the
High Street is done out in a nice Barbara Cartland shade of pink.
- Take the A4 out of Marlborough; there is a turning on the left
which branches off through some houses but sticks parallel to
the A4 for a while; follow this to Stitchcombe. If you miss it
(which we did, but in retrospect I can see which road it was;
it just looks like a residential close rather than a road that
is going anywhere) then follow the A4 for three miles and take
the next left.
- Either way, follow the road down onto the Kennet valley at Axford.
- Turn right at Axford through Ramsbury to Chilton Foliat; then
either left back to Lambourn
, or straight on to Hungerford
and thence back to Oxford.
