Cirencester - 78 miles

A bit on the long side for a club-run, but at least you get a tailwind back and it is pretty flat. Best of all, though, is that it boasts the ace-est cafe within riding distance of Oxford.

  • At Fairford - go through the village then turn right (signposted to Quenington/Coln St. Aldwyns). Turn left after about 1/4 mile (signed Honeycomb Leaze) to a five-ways junction. Turn left (2nd exit; don't double back on yourself) to Ampney St. Peter.
  • From Ampney St. Peter it is a main road, I'm afraid, for 5 miles into Cirencester.
  • Follow the signs into the town centre and eventually you come out onto the High Street; if you turn right there is an archway on the left leading into a courtyard, with an excellent caf at the back.
  • Coming back, follow the A429 (direction Stow-on-the-Wold) then go straight on (direction Burford).
  • About three miles from Cirencester, turn right at the bottom of a sharp dip; keep straight ahead all the way to Quenington.
  • Turn left in Quenington to Coln St. Aldwyns; turn right at the top of the hill to Hatherop.
  • Turn left in Hatherop; sweep left down into a dry valley and back out again and keep going to Westwell
  • Turn left at Westwell to reach the A40. Right then almost immediately left takes you into Burford .
