1. 2008 EVENTS

There will be a calendar up on the website soon for 2008 at http://www.oucycling.co.uk/tt-events.htm with all the events on it. At the moment last year’s races are up there but the list will be largely similar so have a look. It should be ready to be updated by next week when all the dates are confirmed for 2008. Briefly, dates to keep free are

a)      CUPPERS – This will be on Sunday 2nd March at Stadhampton 10 and we will need MARSHALS

b)      CHILTERN 100 – This is kindly being co-ordinated by Jon Marchini and looks like a sensational event. See the website here http://www.chiltern-hundred.org.uk/index.html. He has entered an OUCC team here http://www.chiltern-hundred.org.uk/teams/oucc572212.html , and it would be good to have as many people in it as possible. The initial no. is 12 but we can ask for more as people sign up. I’m definitely going and I know lots of other people are interested. If you are as well, email Jonathan Marchini [marchini@stats.ox.ac.uk]. The cost is £15 which isn’t too bad either.

c)      CIRCUIT OF THE COTSWOLDS – Another really good event which we should have a team at. Email me if you are interested in doing it http://www.circuitofthecotswolds.org/

d)      BUSA AND VARSITY – The most important events of the year. The dates will be:

BUSA TTT –  Saturday 12th April in Longwick, Bucks

BUSA 10 - Saturday 26th March in Cambridge

BUSA 25 & VARSITY – Saturday 3rd May in Oxford organised by OUCC

Transport can be organised to all these so just keep the dates free and start training to beat Cambridge…

2) INSURANCE

The Club is affiliated to British Cycling but it has come to my attention that the insurance offered for each individual member is pretty much non-existent. We do get a discount on Silver and Gold membership to BC (Bronze is free but is similarly useless insurance wise I think) which you should get if you plan to race at all this year. Email me if you want to join and get a racing licence. See http://www.britishcycling.org.uk/web/site/BC/bchome/home.asp.

3) SAFETY CARDS

I have these to give out at rides and they have all the useful numbers on them to call if there is an accident on a ride or you get stranded or something. If you come regularly to the rides and don’t have one, try to find me on Saturday and I’ll give you one to carry with you on the rides.

4) FIRST AID COURSES

These are happening on:

Thursday 31st January, 2008 from 6.00-9.00pm (3rd week of Hilary Term)

Tuesday 12th February, 2008 from 6.00-9.00pm (5th week of Hilary Term)

The club will pay for them if you want to do them and we are short of first aiders. It’s a good skill to have anyway, not just for cycling. Email me if you want to do a course.

5) RIDES THIS WEEK

Saturday 10am, Trinity Gates

  • Short Ride - 40 miles, Brill
  • Fast Ride - 65 miles

Remember to bring the essentials: a map, a mobile phone, enough clothes, food and some money.

Sunday 9am, Martyr's Memorial. OCRC club ride: 50 miles, Wantage with a cafe stop.
